Panama Canal Cruise October 2021

Pictures from Our Panama Canal Cruise October 2021

This cruise, in early October 2021, was the first we had been on since the start of the pandemic in early 2020. Our first travel was a driving trip just earlier in September 2021 when we drove to a relative's wedding in Newport, RI, also visiting New Haven, CT, Cape Cod, MA, New London, CT, Long Beach (Long Island), NY, and Ocean City, NJ. We took ferries in Cape Cod to Martha's Vineyard, from New London to Long Island and from Cape May, NJ to Lewes, DE.

We decided to take the cruise and booked it while on this earlier trip. The cruise started in San Pedro (Los Angeles), went through the Panama Canal and ended in Miami for a total of 14 days (13 nights). We also decided to go a couple of days early to visit with John's family in Southern California. That gave us less than two weeks after we got back to Arlington from the earlier trip. This was a early test cruise since the pandemic so we had to have been vaccinated and show a negative test 2 days before embarking. That meant we wanted to do a first test before flying out to Southern California and then we did a second test while in California, two days before the cruise. We used antigen self-tests that we had to perform with a webcam over the internet in order for them to be certified. The ship also required us to do another third test on board the ship midway through the cruise (they administered that one). The ship ordinarily holds about 2,400 guests, but on this early cruise it only had about 600 guests (according to our waiter). We had to wear masks in most public areas on the ship (except in the dining rooms) and the various ports also required us to wear masks.
