Our fourth stop on this cruise was at Livorno, Italy. From this port city, most cruisers
go to either Pisa or Florence. We had previously been to Florence (and want to return),
so we decided to visit Pisa. We hired a taxi to take us to Pisa, wait for a good while,
and bring us back. This was another rather mind-blowing experience, more than we expected.
Seeing the famed Tower in person is quite spectacular, and it is right next to the
Cathedral and the Baptistry. All three form a beautiful complex in a large, open area.
The places were quite crowded, so we were a little surprised how fairly easily we could
get tickets and get into the Cathedral and Baptistry (we decided not to walk up the tower).
Our driver also drove us to the square of the original University of Pisa, one of the oldest
European universities. Pisa was definitely another place that had to be experienced to be
really appreciated.
