Messina (Taormina), Italy

Our third stop was in Messina, Sicily, Italy. We took a bus ride of about 45 minutes to Taormina, where we wandered around much shopping areas, but mainly to the ancient Greek/Roman theater which is under restoration and where they currently stage performances. Over the centuries, Sicily was conquered and ruled by Greeks, Romans, Ottomans, Normans, and entities on the Italian mainland. (Click on a picture to see it larger. Opens in a new folder.)
